![]() ![]() ![]() The one new thing that I did purchase this year, aside from the greenery pots that I mentioned previously, are the black Christmas lanterns. Years ago, when I first started blogging, I made the large PEACE sign as a Pottery Barn Knockoff for the holidays – you can read about the process here (though don’t judge my early post and photo quality!). Both of these add a fresh and crisp pop of colour that works beautifully with our cheery Christmas porch decor. I made the U-Cut Christmas Tree sign using a similar process, but with a surprising item (you might not believe it’s not actually a wooden sign!). I just enjoy the process of DIYing and then feeling the pride of creating something unique and your own. I’ve seen Christmas signs all over this year at big box stores like Walmart, so if you are short on time you can always buy one. The natural, rustic wood of the old crate adds to that collected and unique feel of our Christmas porch display.Īnother favourite that I love to add to our Christmas porch is signs that I have made myself. I also have a vintage wine crate that looks super cute with winter greens displayed in it. And because the color scheme is quite classic with a mix of black, white, red, and blue it feels crisp and fresh rather than overwhelming or tacky. These thrifted and collected pieces add a festive winter feel and great pops of colour that really up the cuteness and cheer factor on the porch. I have amassed a small collection of items that I love to display on our front porch each Christmas season, including a vintage sled (that I picked up on Facebook Marketplace), two pairs of slightly broken cross-country skis (that I got free from the side of the road), and some thrift store ice skates (which I forgot to put out this year!). I hung a large (faux) wreath (that I already owned) from the scones on either side of the garage and added cheery and dramatic black and white buffalo check ribbon and bows.ĭressing up the front of garage made quite a difference to the overall festive feel of our house and helped balance out all the holiday touches on the porch.Ĭollect Thrifted Wintery Items like Sleds, Skis, and Skates I followed a similar plan and added lots of Christmas greenery, sticks, pine cones, and ornaments to the pots on either side of our garage. It was nice to have the extra pots already done for me, and they are really cute! I also added natural cedar garland around our front window and two natural wreaths hanging from the scones on either side of it.Īlthough I normally make my own Christmas greenery pots, this year I also purchased two through my son’s school as they were doing a fundraiser for PAC. I also usually cut my own greenery from the forests around our home, though you can often buy it at local farm markets or grocery stores. I keep my Christmas porch items like these from year to year and store them in a bin in the shed or garage so that I don’t have to buy new ones each holiday season. I also had a couple of large empty pots on either side of our pew that I stuffed with natural greenery, wooden sticks and branches (saved from year’s past), as well as berries and pine cones. Because our porch is covered they will be fine to weather the holiday season outdoors. Normally, I would stuff cuttings of cedar and pine right into the soil of my large pots, but this year I just laid the cedar and pine boughs on top and capped them off with some fabric ornaments and antlers that I wasn’t using indoors. I have two big pots either side of our front door that have an evergreen shrub in them to last throughout the seasons. Christmas greenery is often the simplest and most thrifty way to add a merry, joyful feel to your outdoor decor. The key items that I like to add each year to make our front porch cheery and festive for the holidays is pots full of Christmas greenery, a live Christmas wreath and natural cedar garlands around our front door and windows. And, to me, a bright and cheerful entry porch starts with Christmas greens! ![]() So if you are wondering how to decorate a porch for Christmas, or how to make your house look Christmassy, then today I’ve got some simple tips you can follow to ensure that your front porch looks nice for the holidays.
